Edward M. Gillespie of Duxbury died on April 20 of metastatic melanoma surrounded by his family. He was born April 15, 1944 in Southbridge and grew up in Charlton. After studying at Clark University, he worked for Litton Industries in sales for approximately 10 years and then spent over 25 years in computer forms sales working for Shade Allied and as a consultant to other paper forms companies. During his time with Shade, Mr. Gillespie earned the top sales award, “The Diamond Crown Award” three times and with Jody, his wife of 28 years, enjoyed trips to Hawaii, the Dominican Republic and a cruise to the Caribbean. Mr. Gillespie loved to travel with his wife around the United States and numerous times to Europe, Canada and the Caribbean Islands. He enjoyed gardening and nature. An avid golfer, he was a member of Marshfield Country Club for over 20 years and played as many golf courses as he could during his travels. He was also a member of the Marshfield Country Club Beautification Committee for many years and his contributions are reflected throughout the golf course. Mr. Gillespie leaves his wife, Jody Gillespie; his daughter, Erin Wakefield and her husband Ben Wakefield; his sister, Mary Ellen Thibau-deau of Charlton; his brothers, Thomas and his wife Cynthia of Holden, Tony and his wife Mary Jane of Charlton, William of Charlton, and James Gillespie of Fla.; three grandchildren, Harrison, Elizabeth and Gavin of Bradford; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, 410 Washington St. Duxbury on Thursday, April 26 at 10 a.m. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the American Cancer Society. |
