Rep. Candidate Josh Cutler Breaks Promise Thirty Times,

Takes $6K+ in Special Interest Campaign Cash

Boston– When Democrat Josh Cutler began his perennial campaign for State Representative he made a promise not to accept campaign cash from special interests like lobbyists and political action committee.  Fourteen years and 30 broken promises later, Cutler is back at it again in the Sixth Plymouth District with $6,150 from lobbyists and other well funded groups in the bank.

“It should disappoint every voter in Hanson, Pembroke and Duxbury that Josh Cutler made a campaign promise that he never intended to keep,” said MassGOP Executive Director Nate Little.  “Unless Cutler keeps his promise and gives back the special interest money, we can only imagine what other easily made promises this perennially unsuccessful candidate cavalierly intends to forget in the unlikely event he is actually elected.”

Background

Cutler Promised to Oppose Donations from Special Interests and Lobbyists “All three [Josh Cutler, Garrett Bradley and Walter Murray] are on record as supporting campaign finance reform and opposing donations from special-interest groups and lobbyists.” (Molly Hochkeppel, “Democratic rivals cross swords on radio,” Patriot Ledger, 9/4/98)

By Amy MacKinnon
Friday, April 20, 2012 04:51 PM

(Photo: The Board of Selectmen met in executive session on Thursday to discuss ongoing litigation involving North Hill Golf Course and Town Counsel Robert Troy's role in it. Attending the meeting were Chair Ted Flynn (back), MIIA co-counsels, Attorney Leonard Kesten, Selectman Shawn Dahlen, Town Manager Richard MacDonald, Recreation Director Gordon Cushing, and Selectmen’s Administrative Assistant Anne Murray. Not pictured, but in attendance was Selectman David Madigan.)

Town Counsel Robert Troy will no longer represent the Town of Duxbury in four civil suits lodged against the town.

The Duxbury Board of Selectmen and others met in executive session for six hours on Thursday to discuss a civil suit lodged against the Town of Duxbury by Johnson Golf Management, Inc. and what role Troy played in it. As a result of that meeting, the Board voted to remove Troy as counsel on the Johnson lawsuit and three other cases pending against the town, including a civil suit filed by former Police Chief Mark Deluca on Feb. 3.

Duxbury Community Volunteer Award 2012
By Admin
Wednesday, April 18, 2012 09:00 AM

It’s that time of year when we need to look around and notice those rays of sunshine, those worker bees, those gentle souls – yes, Duxbury volunteers.

The 16th annual Duxbury Community Volunteer Award recognition event is underway. The event started in 1995 by the Welch Healthcare and Retirement Group as a way to give back to the community by providing a forum for recognizing the important role volunteers play in our community. It has been a wonderful tradition for the Duxbury community to recognize citizens who commit their time and talent to make our town a better place to live. Our volunteers show their devotion to civic causes, environmental issues, youth programs, historical endeavors and more.  Volunteers touch so many aspects of our lives here in Duxbury.  If it were not for the passion and devotion of so many town volunteers, many initiatives would never have been started and so many programs would not be as successful as they are.

Special Report: Town Counsel accused of "not being truthful"
By Amy MacKinnon
Wednesday, April 18, 2012 09:00 AM

The turf war between Johnson Golf, Inc. and the Town of Duxbury continues and now the charges have become personal.

A flurry of pretrial motions in Johnson Golf Management, Inc.’s civil lawsuit against the Town of Duxbury includes allegations that Town Counsel Robert Troy “was not being truthful” in statements made at an October 4, 2010 Board of Selectmen’s meeting and in a January 27, 2009 hearing before the court.

Troy flatly denies he intentionally made any false statements.

“If I said it, I felt it to be true at the time,” said Troy. “I take umbrage at the charges.”
