Duxbury Pizza defies power outage

Despite howling winds, massive power outages and blizzard conditions, one Duxbury business stayed open throughout Blizzard 2013, welcoming neighbors and adventurous residents.

It was a relatively easy week for the boys’ hockey team, as they waltzed past Quincy, 5-2, and then took care of Whitman-Hanson on Saturday night at The Bog, 7-3. The victories pushed Duxbury’s record to 11-1-4, as they get ready for Wednesday night’s Patriot League battle with Silver Lake, who tied the Dragons last month, 2-2.

The 911 Emergency Communication Center, referred to as the Duxbury Emergency Communications Center, was officially relocated from the police station on West Street. to the fire station on Tremont Street. on Tuesday, Jan. 29.

The contractors are on site at the Powder Point bridge and the repair work is underway to fix the twelve deteriorated piles that have caused the bridge’s closure.

The Board of Selectmen has voted 2-1 not to support changing the date of the annual town meeting from March to May.

With frigid temperatures blanketing the South Shore, the fishing season seems far off. One Duxbury native, however, is jumping feet first into shell fishing off the coast of Africa this January. 

Traveling throughout Africa is often on the bucket lists of college graduates who would also enjoy the opportunity to teach in third world countries. For Carly Spoor, a dream to do both became a reality mere months after graduation.

Two town administrators in neighboring towns have been named as finalists to become Duxbury’s next town manager. The town manager search committee announced the names Monday night at the selectmen’s meeting. The finalists are Norwell Town Administrator James Boudreau and Hanson Town Administrator Rene Read.
