Smarter Than a Duxbury Fifth Grader will be held on Thursday, March 14 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Duxbury Performing Arts Center. The Alden PTA would like to welcome you to a night of laughter and fun as the Duxbury fifth graders show their mad skills in a challenge against some brave few who are willing to find out if they are smarter than a Duxbury fifth grader. Tickets are $10 per adult, $5 per child, $30 max per family. Participating fifth graders do not need to buy a ticket. The Duxbury girls’ basketball team opened its post-season journey with a convincing 65-44 win over No. 13 seeded Hopkinton on Wednesday night in Duxbury. The win sends the Lady Dragons into Saturday afternoon’s quarterfinal action in Duxbury against No. 5-seeded Fontbonne Academy of Milton.

The summer of 2012 buzzed along for the two Duxbury beekeepers followed in this three-part series. During the warm months, bees go about their business of gathering nectar and filling frames in the hives with golden honey and are left to their toil except for occasional check ups to make sure the colonies are healthy.

Officials approve beach lease increase

Duxbury selectmen have agreed to support a $200,000 increase for the Duxbury beach lease, saying the money will be classified as a one-time expense this year to cover storm damage from the February blizzard and will come from the town’s free cash account. The lease agreement is a warrant article and residents can vote on it at the March 9 town meeting.
