Police Investigating Assaults on Two Female Joggers
By David A. Mittell Jr.
Sunday, September 09, 2012 07:16 AM

Duxbury Police are investigating the report that two female joggers were assaulted while jogging in two separate incidents in two separate locations on Thursday morning (9/6/12). At 10:24 am a female jogger reported being approached from behind by an unknown male while jogging on Crescent Street. The man then assaulted the jogger and ran off into nearby woods. At 11:05 am a second female reported to police that she was assaulted in a similar fashion while jogging along Powder Point Avenue near Russell Road. In both cases the victims described the man as a young man (teens to twenties) wearing long cargo styled shorts and a dark colored tee shirt. The investigation has revealed that the incident on Powder Point Avenue actually occurred first, sometime in the area of 9:30 to 10:00 am with the Crescent Street incident immediately following.

Duxbury resident Karen Barry had lots of enthusiastic supporters at the polls on Thursday during the State Primary election. Barry, a write-in candidate for state representative, won Duxbury by an unofficial 447-329 margin, but was edged out overall by incumbent Rep. Dan Webster. In other contested races Duxbury voters chose Congressman Bill Keating over challenger Sam Sutter and nominated Democrat Genevieve Davis over Steve May to run against Republican Sen Robert Hedlund, who was unopposed on the Republican side. Full primary results available here.

K9 Committee to meet
By Administrator
Wednesday, September 05, 2012 08:27 AM

The Duxbury Canine Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at the Senior Center to hear public comments on dog related issues.  The committee was appointed by the Town Manager to make recommendations to the Selectmen concerning complaints about dogs not being adequately controlled and dog waste not being picked up in Duxbury public parks and lands.  Some of the approaches being considered include improved signs, an awareness campaign, increased enforcement presence, dog waste bag dispensers and receptacles at problem areas, and changes to bylaws that would, among other things, clarify enforcement authority and penalties and require droppings to be removed from conservation lands (as is the case for other Town property).  Those interested in dog control issues are urged to attend this or other Canine Committee meetings at the Senior Center (usually 8 a.m. on the first Wednesday of each month).

By Mike Halloran
Wednesday, September 05, 2012 08:21 AM

When you return the Patriot League’s top two scorers and the No. 2 rated goalie, it’s not difficult to be optimistic.
