|UPDATE: Town Manager's firing proposed Monday night|
|Tuesday, October 06, 2009 01:05 PM|
Selectmen Christopher Donato said that during the closed-door executive session held Monday night, he made a motion to fire Town Manager Richard MacDonald.
“We’re talking about removing the wrong person,†said Donato. “There was no just cause established for removing [Police Chief Mark DeLuca], but, in my eyes, there is just cause to remove the town manager. I did not have the support of the other two selectmen.â€
The issue had been broached at the previous board meeting, when police chief supports unhappy with the contract situation called on selectmen to remove MacDonald.
Selectman Jon Witten said at the time he would not vote to remove the town manager, an action he called “reckless.â€
“I’d need grounds to remove the town manager,†said Witten last week. “I’m not going to do anything that is illegal or reckless. I don’t believe there is cause to remove the town manager.â€
