Friday, November 27, 2009 11:27 AM

The Dragons walked away with a 17-7 win over Marshfield last Thursday in the traditional Thanksgiving Day confrontation, hoping that their victory sent a clear message to the Rams prior to Tuesday's Division IIA playoff game.

Dragons head to playoffs after overtime win
Sunday, November 15, 2009 11:21 AM

Murphy's law is an adage or epigram that is typically stated as: "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong."

That saying may have found a new meaning on Friday night in Duxbury, when senior running back Bobby Murphy had the best game (31 carried/191 yards) of his high school career in a 15-13 overtime thriller over Scituate.

Boys soccer edges Marshfield in opener
Tuesday, September 15, 2009 05:23 PM

It was bad enough that Coach John Tocci and his boys’ soccer team had to open its season against archrival Marshfield. But to do it on the Rams’ home field without the services of starters junior Mike Gabrielli (broken foot), junior Zac Gino (hip), and senior Pat Charland (hamstring) made it even more challenging.

They didn’t wheel any wooden horse behind the Duxbury defense. They just went toe-to-toe and ran at will on their opening drive, moving the ball 90 yards in 14 plays and overcoming a 15-yard penalty in the process.

Field hockey optimistic after heartbreaking ending to 2008 season
Monday, August 31, 2009 12:00 AM

Lost in the shuffle of last year’s three state titles won by DHS was the valiant effort put in by the Lady Dragon field hockey team in the opening round of last fall’s MIAA playoffs. In one of the most hard-fought and entertaining games of the year, Duxbury lost a double-OT game to Sandwich, 2-1, and had its season end at 10-5-4. While the loss was hard for the players to accept at the time, it has become a rallying cry for Coach Pam Manley’s squad and a memory they have no intention of repeating.

Dragons do it again: Beat St. John’s Prep for 6th straight lax title
By Mike Halloran
Thursday, June 11, 2009 08:39 AM

You would think after winning five consecutive State titles and six of the last seven, the excitement for Coach Chris Sweet winning his seventh Division I State lacrosse title would be somewhat tempered. Don’t be fooled.

“We always believe we can do it, but it’s hard to believe it’s six in a row,” said the surprised Duxbury coach after his team beat St. John’s Prep, 13-12, on Wednesday night at Harvard Stadium. “It hasn’t quite sunk in yet. But it never gets old. It’s a new group every year, but no Duxbury group has ever worked as hard as this one. They earned it and I’m extremely proud of them.”
