The search committee tasked with finding Duxbury’s next police chief will have some professional help.

Town Manager Richard MacDonald has selected the West Yarmouth-based firm BadgeQuest to head the search for a new Duxbury police chief. The firm will work with a search committee MacDonald is forming to help guide the search, although the town manager has sole appointing authority at the end of the day.

Field Notes: A birdless sky?

Where are all the birds?  For almost two months now, we have had almost no birds at our feeders. I mean no birds. Feeders full of seed and no birds eating from them.  For decades we have raised huge crops of insatiable titmice and chickadees, House Finches, goldfinches, Mourning Doves, various woodpeckers, wrens, etc. in our yard. Crows love the place which pleases me since they are without a doubt the best of birds. Now, nothing and I am not the only one. Lots of people have been calling and emailing me convinced that some dire catastrophe has befallen the avian world.

BREAKING NEWS: DeLuca deal off the table

On Friday morning, the Board of Selectmen voted to rescind a settlement offer previously extended to former police chief Mark DeLuca.  Selectmen had signed off on the deal two weeks ago but the document was never accepted by DeLuca.

UPDATE: Selectmen meet Friday morning

According to the message posting board at Town Hall, the Board of Selectmen met on Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. for an executive session. The Clipper is following the story, so stay tuned to the Web site for further updates. Also, we have learned today that Monday night's Board of Selectmen meeting will be canceled due to a lack of quorum.

Gallery: Workers lay foundation for WWI memorial

Workers from the DPW along with the Eagle's Nest company worked on the brick path that will eventually lead to a restored World War I monument Thursday afternoon. Once the brick work is done, the plain bricks will be replaced with engraved ones, bearing the names of the project's donors. The project is expected to be completed in the spring.
