Man charged in connection with burglary spree

Lady Dragons take care of Cougars

Duxbury Coach Bob Sullivan called Notre Dame the best 10-10 team in the state. But that didn’t seem to scare his Lady Dragon basketball team, as they treated the Cougars like they would any other .500 team and dominated inside in the first eight minutes while on their way to a 57-39 semifinal win at Massasoit Community College on Wednesday night in Brockton.

The Duxbury girls’ basketball team opened its post-season journey with a convincing 65-44 win over No. 13 seeded Hopkinton on Wednesday night in Duxbury. The win sends the Lady Dragons into Saturday afternoon’s quarterfinal action in Duxbury against No. 5-seeded Fontbonne Academy of Milton.

Dragons ice two more wins

It was a relatively easy week for the boys’ hockey team, as they waltzed past Quincy, 5-2, and then took care of Whitman-Hanson on Saturday night at The Bog, 7-3. The victories pushed Duxbury’s record to 11-1-4, as they get ready for Wednesday night’s Patriot League battle with Silver Lake, who tied the Dragons last month, 2-2.

Dragons’ unbeaten streak continues

The DHS boys’ hockey team kept its unbeaten streak alive. But it wasn’t very impressive in the process when it allowed the North Quincy Red Raiders to score in the final 22 seconds and earn a 1-1 tie with the Dragons.

Girls keep on winning

The Duxbury girl swimmers had to put in their best effort in holding off a strong Norwell team last Thursday afternoon at the Percy Walker Pool. Norwell started racking up points early in the meet with first-place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle, forcing Duxbury to re-focus.

Leddie and Genereux win titles

Senior wrestling captains Brian Leddie (152) and Jake Genereux (182) won their respective championships at the Whitman-Hanson Tournament on Saturday.  For Genereux, it was his second title at the 13-team invitational, winning last year in the 152-pound weight class.  For Leddie, the championship was even sweeter after finishing fourth last year at 145.

The DHS boys’ hockey team got off to a slow start in its first two games, controlling play in the offensive end but squandering chance after chance, especially after outshooting Hanover 44 -16 and registering just one goal in a 1-1 tie.

DHS football gives back

The Duxbury High School Varsity Football program has a long tradition of excellence, and its 37-1 record over the past three seasons would certainly indicate that this winning culture is as strong as ever.  But Head Coach Dave Maimaron has always demanded more of his players than just a commitment on the field.  He also insists that they be good people, devoted teammates and generous citizens of the community.

Hornets sting Dragons

It took a near perfect performance by an opponent to finally end Duxbury’s 37-game winning streak, and it happened on Tuesday night in Bridgewater where Hockomock League champion Mansfield HS defeated the unbeaten Dragons, 23-19.

It was a tough night for some senior members of the Dragons, who hadn’t lost a football game since the sixth-grade and were denied their third consecutive Super Bowl title by being eliminated from the play-offs.

Coleman optimistic about girls’ soccer season

Duxbury has had some great girls’ soccer teams over the years, and Coach Emerson Coleman is confident that trend will continue this year with a squad he calls one of the deepest he has had in his five years at the helm of the program. When you return the Patriot League’s top two scorers and the No. 2 rated goalie, it’s not difficult to be optimistic.
